Burns Night

Northumberland charity is able to help more older people in the county thanks to support for burns night celebration

Age UK Northumberland will be able to support even more older people in the county this year, thanks to the funds raised at their Burns Night Celebration on Saturday 25 January at Newton Hall.

The event raised almost £10,000, thanks to generous sponsorship by financial services company, Sage Wealth Management and the kind support of Newton Hall and many other local businesses.

Amy Whyte, Head of Charitable Services for Age UK Northumberland said:
“We were blown away by the support of our terrific sponsor, Sage Wealth Management and everyone who attended. It was a terrific evening, but there was a very important purpose behind our work – to raise awareness and vital funds to support older people living in the county who are isolated, lonely and need our help. We are all very grateful for the support that we received and we will ensure that this fundraising helps us to reach and support more people across the Northumberland. The beauty of being a small and local charity, is that everything we raise in Northumberland directly helps the people in Northumberland.”

Michael Sage from Sage Wealth Management said:
“It was our great pleasure to support this valuable event and help Age UK Northumberland to raise vital funds in support of their services. We are committed to investing in the local community and can see the tremendous benefits that their teams give to older people, providing access to support applying for welfare benefits, advocacy, helping people to socialise and overcome loneliness and inspiring healthy choices and exercise in later life; at Sage Wealth Management, we want to use our success to make a difference.”

By providing companionship, friendship and advice, the Age UK Northumberland team is not just decreasing loneliness, they’re having a positive impact on all of the other health problems that are associated with it. Health problems related with loneliness of older people can include: depression, sleep problems, impaired cognitive health, heightened vascular resistance, hypertension, psychological stress and mental health problems.

Amy added:
“We are all very grateful for the support that we have received from both our headline sponsor, Sage Wealth Management and Newton Hall, who have both ensured that we have a spectacular evening planned. Our event was also supported by Northumberland Tartan who allowed us to use their fabulous Northumberland Tartan Co table runners, SK Click Events who brought along their SK Mirror Booth and SK Mini Selfie Mirror and Pictured Life Photography, who all made the event so special”.

Age UK Northumberland is an independent local charity which provides services for older adults throughout Northumberland. The central service at the charity is free information, advice and advocacy; other services are designed to meet local needs and currently include: day care, personal care, exercise and falls prevention classes, lunch clubs and day centres.
